Canvas — the learning management system used by the University of Maryland — was brought back online Monday evening after being down for multiple hours due to issues with Amazon Web Services.

The outage that shut down Canvas was resolved Monday evening. Amazon Web Services have returned to their normal operations, according to a 6:53 p.m. update from Amazon.

The outage has impacted multiple campus services and is expected to continue to the end of the day, according to an email from this university’s Division of Information Technology.

The division wrote it does not have an estimated time that services will be restored, but it is in contact with Amazon Web Services. It will continue to post updates as information becomes available.

Amazon confirmed its cloud computing service is experiencing network connectivity issues, according to its health dashboard. The company is continuing to investigate the outage’s cause and there are some signs of early connectivity issues recovery, as of a 10:29 a.m. update from the dashboard.

As of 11:15 a.m., users are met with a connection error when opening Canvas. The error cites the health dashboard for updates.

Amazon Website Services first began investigating the issues at about 3 a.m., the dashboard read.

Other web services have also been widely impacted by the issues, including Signal, Roblox and Snapchat, according to the Associated Press.
